Henk van der Kamp

After graduating in 1978 from Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands, Hendrik W van der Kamp was appointed planning research officer in Bunnik Municipality, Netherlands. He moved to Ireland in 1982 and worked first as Assistant Planner for Cork County Council. In 1985 he became Senior Research Officer in the National Institute for Construction and Planning Research (An Foras Forbartha).

Between 1988 and 1995 he worked as Senior Planning Inspector for the National Planning Appeals Board (An Bord Pleanala). In 1995 he joined the lecturing staff of the planning school in University College Dublin and in 1999 he moved to Dublin Institute of Technology where in 2003 he became Head of School of Transport Engineering, Environment and Planning.

Following his retirement in 2017 he became a consultant with R W Nowlan & Associates, Chartered Planning and Property Advisors in Dublin, and also holds a part-time position as Chair of Academic Development of the Department Architecture and Environment in Gengdan Institute of Beijing University of Technology, China. He is a Past-President of the Irish Planning Institute and Honorary President of the European Council of Spatial Planners.
